Mungo National Park – Sturt Highway and Melaleuca (corner); 011-61-3-5021-8900;; national park in south-west New South Wales, 876 km west of Sydney, in Balranald Shire; part of Willandra Lakes Region, World Heritage Site covering 2.4K sq km; incorporating 17 dry lakes; central feature is Lake Mungo, 2nd largest of dry lakes; park significant for archeological remains discovered there (“Mungo Man”), oldest human remains discovered in Australia, and Mungo Lady, oldest known human to have been ritually cremated; buried on Lake Mungo’s southeastern shores.
